The Samburu safari provides a unique wildlife experience not found in any other park in Kenya. Animals like the Gerenuk, Grevy Zebra, and Orynx can only be seen in this park. It is also home to the rare endangered Rothschild giraffe. Located 340 kilometers from Nairobi in the semi-arid northern Kenya region lies the Samburu National Reserve. The game Reserves lifeline is the Ewaso Nyiro River that runs right through the park and provides life-giving water to the park’s wildlife.
Samburu is unique due to its hosting numerous wildlife species that cannot be found anywhere else in Kenya while at the same time hosting Africa’s big cats in abundance. The Ewaso Nyiro River hosts lots of crocodiles and hippos.The park is one of the three national reserves that are located in the same area. The other two are Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves. Due to the amount of time it takes one to drive from Nairobi, you need at least 3 days and 2 nights in Samburu to be able to experience the natural wonders found here.
Though not as popular as its rivals in Masai Mara and Amboseli, Samburu will not disappoint and will provide a great haven away from the crowds in a natural setting for viewing wildlife.The weather ranges from hot day times to cool nights so you need to pack some light clothes for the day and something warm for the nights. Accommodations at Samburu vary from top-of-the-range 5-star lodges and luxury camps to 3-star lodges but prices are reasonable.
