Campi ya Kanzi is an award-winning luxury eco-lodge located in southern Kenya’s Chyulu Hills, which inspired Ernest Hemingway’s novel “Green Hills of Africa.” The camp was the only Kenya luxury safari resort in a Maasai-owned reserve spanning 283,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness for over 20 years. The volcanic peaks of the Hills are covered with a lush green cloud forest that is home to a diverse range of trees, flowers, insects, birds, and animals. This unique Maasai country is home to great wildlife, including zebra, giraffe, antelopes, and apex predators such as lions and leopards for game watching.
Campi ya Kanzi was founded in 1975, when Luca arrived in the Chyulu for the first time. For 20 years, it was a boyhood fantasy that became a reality in 1995, when Luca and Antonella relocated permanently to the Chyulu. It took a few years to build, during which we lived in a tiny tent for almost a year. The toilet was a bush hole, and the shower was a bucket on a tree, with stars as the canopy.
